Traveling to the Pacific Northwest this October? Don’t miss out on all the fun things to do for Halloween in Portland. From finding the perfect costume to enjoying kid-friendly events and all-night celebrations, make the most of the holiday during your stay.
Costumes
For all of your last-minute costume needs, head to one of Portland’s many local vintage and costume shops. Whether you just need simple accessories or a full ensemble, stop by Hollywood Vintage, Lippmann Co., or Wigland where you’re sure to find something showstopping.
Haunted Houses
The spookiest day of the year wouldn’t be complete without a visit to one of Portland’s haunted houses. Local favorites include The Fear Haunted House and Fearlandia. Those brave enough to pass through will enjoy an unforgettable night of fright and fun. Fearlandia also offers a family-friendly “Not as Scary Day” on October 20.
Family-Friendly Fun
There are plenty of family-friendly Halloween festivities. A trip to the pumpkin patch is a quintessential fall activity, and a must during your Halloween visit. Plumper Pumpkin Patch & Tree Farm and The Pumpkin Patch each offer fun activities — including face painting and a corn maze — in addition to the main activity of picking a pumpkin. Families will also enjoy the festive fun held at the Portland Aerial Tram, like arts and crafts and rides on the tram.
This year we’ll be hosting our own family-friendly celebration: Dress Up Like a Witch. Families staying with us on October 26 and 31 can dress up like a witch using complimentary face paint, black lipstick, capes, and hats. Those participating in the third annual SUP Witch Paddle can get dressed up with accessories from our witch dress up event.
Parties & Celebrations
Dress up and dance the night away at one of Portland’s many Halloween parties and celebrations. The famous McMenamins Crystal Ballroom will host an 80’s-themed Halloween party on October 25 ($25). For a more laid-back celebration, Hip Chicks Do Wine is throwing a wine and halloween candy pairing event all weekend long ($12).
